Ardgillan was originally built in 1738, with both wings of the building and numerous decorative embellishments added during the late 19th century. It sits on 200 acres of nature reserve on the north Dublin coast and the castle and grounds are a well-loved public amenity.
Scope
Crannog were contracted to utilize their specialist experience in conservation projects of this type.
The roof, comprising fourteen sections both discrete and overlapping, was entirely repaired and re-fitted using new Blue Bangor slates and valleys crafted from Code 8 lead. Substrate including timbers were repaired, restored, and replaced as appropriate. Leaks were eliminated, drainage and ventilation were refurbished to the highest standards.
The restoration is now complete and this magnificent estate can once again be safely enjoyed by the public for generations to come.
