Originally a storage building for barley conveyed through the canal system for use in the adjacent Guinness brewery, this elegant building now forms the centre-piece of this large-scale development at the edge of Dublin’s Liberties District.

Crannog stripped and rebuilt the roof structure from scratch to strict conservation best practice. We then fitted new blue Bangor slates on top of a fireproof substrate, and installed lead cladding to the dormers. We also installed a custom built lead dome, designed and built by our heritage and metalwork experts.

For the new block on the south end, we installed VMZinc standing seam warm deck roof, adding a contemporary touch to the development.

The curved architecture of the building presented a unique challenge, requiring meticulously cut and taper of slates and metal roofing sections of this crescent-shaped structure.
