The Rubrics Building in Trinity College Dublin is the oldest surviving building on campus. A corruption of “red-bricks”, the Rubrics was originally a quadrangle constructed around the turn of the 18th Century. The remaining building is visible from  has housed many notable characters during their student days, including writers Oliver Goldsmith and John McGahern, as well as Ireland’s first president, Douglas Hyde.

Scope

Crannog were tasked to fit new roof coverings (primarily Valentia Slate) to diminishing courses on new felt and battens. Gutex Multiplex board was used as a lightweight solution over structural rafters. Detailed copper and lead flashings, valleys and trim were custom built and fitted by our experts.

The building, thoroughly refurbished throughout, is now enjoying a new lease of life as residence for new faculty members and international visitors. Through the efforts of Crannog and our colleagues in Clancy it has been restored to its former state as a handsome centre-piece of the college grounds.
